I’ve been playing makeup for years. I dabbled as a makeup artist while living in NC, I’ve taken several classes and watched many a video on makeup application. While I’m still a huge makeup hoarder fan I’ve gotten so busy with school and life that I basically just went with the simplest makeup applications. You know foundation, concealer, eyeliner, mascara, blush and a gloss or lipstick. This worked for me and probably took me only about 10-15 minutes. With so much going on in my work and school life I honestly didn’t have time to really glamour myself up. I just wanted to be presentable, not beautiful, not cute but just presentable. Maybe this is what happens when one turns 30 and they’re tired. The sad part of it all is that I accepted it.Last monday I had the opportunity to attend a Make Up For Ever Mastery Course called “Complexion and Contour”, and in 2hrs the way I looked at myself was completely changed.
The Complexion and Contour course allows for the participants to learn professional makeup techniques for a highlighting and contouring that will allow you to create a flawless complexion day to night. The classes are catered to a range a people, from those who’ve never worn makeup all the way to experienced makeup users like myself that just want a refresher. The great thing is that classes are small and very hands on so you can have all your questions answered without feeling foolish. Compared to several other makeup classes I’ve taken this class was by far the best! We each had our own set of brushes, tools and products custom picked to fit our needs. The classes always start off on a positive note with each participant asked to say something nice about themselves. This was a great start since we as women often times don’t compliment ourselves enough. After that we dived right into the class. The key to creating a perfect complexion is applying makeup in the appropriate order and with the proper technique. For this we used a flow chart that listed 10 easy to follow steps. As we moved through each step we were able to jot down the shade and brush used so that we could refer back to it later.
Now this is why I really really loved the class. Jayme our MUA/teacher for the day showed up with out her makeup done. As we went through each step she showed us the correct application techniques using her own face as a model. When we got to the contour part, which is the part I really struggle on, Jayme took the time out to show me how do an appropriate contour for my face shape. She took me to look in a larger mirror and this is when it hit me. I realized that I could easily be more than just presentable. I was actually beautiful, and we were only on step number 6!! I honestly could have just stopped after the contour application. I was simply amazed at the fact that by just changing up my technique I could change the way I felt.
The following day we were hit with a major snow storm so I used the down time to practice creating my perfect complexion and contour again. My skin is glowing and radiant and I look forward to getting up and doing my makeup in the morning. I’ve received several compliments on my skin and how fresh it looks and even it looks. This is a huge deal for me since I have a skin disorder.
The Make Up For Ever Mastery courses are $25 and with each class they offer a 20% discount on purchases that day. The
classes are held on Mondays and the topics are always changing. I plan on attending several others so if you’re in the Philadelphia area be sure to stop by the Make up For Ever Boutique in the King of Prussia mall. I may even be sitting across from you in a class!
