I’ve never been a huge tea drinker, unless you consider the countless sweet teas I’ve had from Chick-Fil-A in the past year, but other that I’ve never been one to get down with tea. Usually in the mall I always huff it past Teavana because while it smells great the thought of me steeping tea is seriously intimidating. It’s like I worry if someone catches me pouring tea from delicate pot into a tea cup I may lose whatever street cred I have left, and let me tell ya it isn’t much since I’ve started this whole PhD thing. Unbeknownst to me my entire thought process on tea was going to change the minute I stepped foot into DavidsTea for the stores grand opening in the King Of Prussia Mall.
Upon entering the store I was greeted with a sample of the “Tea of the Day” which smelled delicious. I couldn’t help but to also take in the vibrant and lively coloring throughout the store. This was definitely not you ordinary tea store. The bright teal walls and colorful displays made if feel warm and inviting. This is a huge change from the frumpy, stuffy tea stores I’m used to seeing. What I love about DavidsTea store is that it’s created for all level of tea drinkers. With me being a complete novice when it comes to loose leaf teas I loved how the staff showed me the ropes and helped me to realize that becoming a tea drinker was simple! I just needed a few things to get me started.
1.The Tea: DavidsTea has a smorgasbord of different teas to choose from ranging from Black to Rooibos. In the shop, you can smell and touch each one. You may find yourself spending tons of time just smelling teas. My tactic was to go with the ones that had the funnest names. Check out The Skinny, a tea with delicious traditional digestives like pu’erh, oolong, ginger and eleuthero root, to or if you want a tea that’s like a liquid spa definitely try out “The Glow”. Another great feature of the teas is that they actually contain bits of what their names imply. See how this Movie Night tea that contains actual popcorn! It’s because of this alone that it actually came home with me.
2. Sachets or Infuser?: A tea novice like myself would automatically think that all tea should come already placed in a tea bag. However, there is a variety of different ways to steep your Tea. All of DavidsTea are loose leaf teas and so you’re giving the option of steeping your tea by using a sachet (teabag) or by using an infuser. The infusers are made to fit any teacup and are made to hold tea so that large pieces can expand, and smaller pieces stay in place. There is also the perfect spoon! This spoon allows you scoop out the right amount of tea so that you’re making the perfect cup every single time.
3. The Tea Mug: There are many different options when it comes to drinking your tea. These aren’t the delicate “do not touch” tea cups, but more so mugs made for everyday use. I think the travel mugs is one of my favorites as it comes with its own infuser and even a separate compartment to store extra tea! The travel mug is a double walled so that keeps your tea hot or cold for hours. If you’re the type of person who never knows when your tea has steeped long enough, then you can pick up the color changing Nordic mug. This mug also comes with an infuser and the picture on the mug will change colors once your tea is ready.
