I’m still on the hunt for a new product line or products to replace my the products in my old regimen. I was recently sent over several products from the Motions Enhance and Define collection that includes products made specifically for natural textured hair. I may be late to the party, but the first thing I noticed was the new sleek look of the products, and with this new sleek look they also come with new and improved formulas to give us Natural girls everything our hair needs and more. The Motions Enhance and Define line comes with nine different products three of which are for heat styling which I won’t be discussing with you since I no longer heat style my hair. The products include a Moisturizing Cleanser, Smoothing Conditioner, Pre-Wash Detangling Butter, Versatile Texture Defining Cream, and Radiating Hair Gloss.
Ingredients used within the Enhance and Define Collection:
-
Coconut Oil: Can penetrate the hair to help soften and add shine to dry and dull strands
-
Almond Oil: Helps to protect the surface cuticle and add shine to hair. Also protects against breakage
-
Shea Butter: full of vitamins including Vitamin F, a rich source of essential fatty acid that can be beneficial to moisturizing and rejuvenating the hair
-
Argan Oil: Absorbs instantly to give hair brilliant shine and long lasting conditioning without weighing it down
-
Keratin: The protein that makes up 805 of hair’s structure
-
Avocado Oil: Contains essential nutrients that can penetrate the hair to transform dry and brittle strands into soft and shiny healthier looking hair
I decided to give these products a try to see if they were actually something I could include in my regimen. I started off by using the Pre-Wash detangling butter. My hair is not that long so I usually don’t have to fight too much with knots or tangles but I did feel like by using this before shampooing I was able to get rid of a lot of shed hair before actually washing my hair. The Moisturizing Cleanser is sulfate free and did its job of cleansing my hair without leaving any residue behind. After the wash I didn’t notice a huge difference between how moisturized my hair was compared to other shampoos but all in all it was an okay Shampoo. I then followed up with the Motions Smoothing Conditioner. Since I wasn’t going to be heat styling my hair I can’t really speak to how well this product performed as a smoothing agent, however I did notice that my hair wasn’t as frizzy after I rinsed the conditioner out.
To style my hair, I used the Versatile texture defining cream. Now I’ve used this product several different times each time trying out different hair styles as this product is a gel as well as a cream. The first style I tried was a wash and go. I turned out… okay.. my hair was unbelievably soft, but lacking the curl definition that I love with Wash and Go’s. The second style I tried was a twist out. I used this product alone on two separate occasions attempting a twist out. The first attempt was a fail as I paired it with another cream. My hair just looked unkempt after removing the twist. I really wanted this product to work so the second time I used it alone flat twisted my hair in the front going to the side as well as two strand twisted the sides. I did not use this product in conjunction with any other holding products such as gels or foams.
I allowed the twist to dry over night and I removed them the next morning after applying the Radiating Hair Gloss to the dry twist. The results were light fluffy semi defined curls. I do feel the definition could have a been a bit deeper, but again I used this product alone. The sad part is while I really enjoyed this hairstyle I was unable to achieve second-day hair. Had I used another holding product I think second-day hair would have been achievable.
All in all the Enhance and Define line for Motions is an okay line. I would probably leave the Versatile Defining Cream as it didn’t do much for my hair, but the other products could find a place in my beauty cabinet. As far as being a part of my permanent styling regimen that is still to be determined. You can find these Motions products at Walmart, Target, and your local beauty supply stores.
Thanks for the review. I’ve been using Motions products for several years and now I find that they are no longer available in my usual spot at Walgreens. In fact, I’m having to search and find them online. I was wondering if they were updating/upgrading and in the process of replacing my old standby products – Define My Curls (creme) and Hydrate My Curls (hair pudding). I’ll try to see if I can find these updated versions.
