Makeup and AirBrushing is often synonymous with celebrity makeup and bridal makeup. When I was married I had my makeup airbrushed on and let me tell you it did not budge in that sweltering South Carolina heat. I’ve never really thought about doing my own airbrushing at home as part of a daily makeup routine until Luminess Air Brushing Systems provided me with my very own Air Brushing machine and gave me a chance at it.
The system that I received was the Legend AirBrush System in Teal and White . It came accompanied with the following items
Legend Airbrush Compressor and Stylus
AC Adaptor
Instructional DVD
1 Year Warranty
2 – 0.55oz bottles Ultra foundation (Color Deep)
1 – 0.25oz bottle Blush
1 – 0.25oz Skin Brightening Glow
1 – 0.25oz Moisturizer/Primer
The system itself was pretty easy to set up. You just attached the rubber hose to the compressor and plug it in. I really liked how small it was and how it didn’t take up hardly any room on my bathroom counter. The system also comes with a stylus that sprays your makeup on based on how hard you press the button back. It seems that airbrushing makeup can be a bit of a mess, but this was actually very tidy and clean up was a breeze. Also, since you’re not actually touching anything to your skin it’s very hygienic as opposed to other methods where you use a brush or your fingers to apply the makeup.
Foundation Colors: In this particular kit, you get 2 foundation colors. I chose the color deep after looking at reviews and their website, however, after the colors arrived I realized that they were not my shade at all and after sharing this information with them I was sent the tan collection . One thing to remember about foundation is that like your skin the foundation comes in various undertones. I found that the Deeper Foundations had red undertones while the Tan foundations had a better mixture of both Red and Yellow Undertones. The great thing about Luminess Air foundations is that they are buildable and are perfect for reducing blemishes, age spots, and redness. They also have several different formulas so that there is something for all skin types. I chose the Matte formula since I am prone to very oily skin. Luminess also carries an array of other products like Blush, Concealer, and even eyeshadows!
Application:
I believe after reading the reviews and watching the suggested tutorial video that accompanies the DVD I had a false sense of comfort when it came to using this system. I honestly thought I was going to pick it up and BAM brush up on my makeup like a professional. Yeah, that was totally not the case. As I mentioned earlier the stylus comes with a button that controls how hard or soft the makeup is dispersed. After several tries, I finally figured out that in order to spray the makeup on in such a way that I didn’t have splotches all over my face I had alternate between pressing and releasing the button in order to have an even spray.
Adding makeup to the stylus is simple. You just need to add a few drops to the stylus and spray. I did find that even though I did receive the Tan collection of foundation shades I still had trouble finding a foundation shade that matched my skin tone exactly. With the Luminess Air foundations, you can mix and match by just adding drops to the stylus. After a bit of testing, I decided that Shade 7 was probably as close as I was going to get.
I am not including a picture of the makeup applied as I feel the color was off and gave my face a very flat appearance even after the addition of the brightener and the blush. Although I didn’t have complete success with this system I believe it all comes down to more practice and fine-tuning of the foundation shade. Instead of a matte foundation I made need to try a different kind as I’ve seen several other bloggers of color have success with the Luminess Air system.
