Great Tips for Keeping the Home Clean When you Have Pets this Holiday Season

I love to decorate our home and have people over. The one thing I don’t like is the big clean up that goes on right before you have guest over.  We’re not those people whose house is always immaculate whenever you go to visit. Let me tell ya, our house and every single room within it is very much lived in. We do a really good clean once a week and since we have pets our clean up is a lot more intense. Dog hair seems to get everywhere, and while my husband and I are used to it our guest aren’t. We steam mop, dust, and use lint rollers to try to get up as much dog hair as possible. There is nothing worse than having a guest point out dog hair on a cushion. We’ve had that happen and while the guest could have easily looked the other way (which I’m still kinda in my feelings about) they didn’t and had my husband scrambling to get it off. So how do you pet proof your house and keep it guest friendly for the holidays?

  1. Cover chairs with blankets. A week before your expecting company go through and give your house a thorough cleaning and then put covers, blankets, or throws over all the chairs and couches. This way the day the guest are due to arrive you can pop them in the washing machine to wash off any hair that’s been picked up and then do a quick once-over with a lint roller.
  2. Keep pets out of rooms that the guest will be in. This may be harder than normal since our pets are basically our family members and love to be anywhere we are. On the day of your gathering try to keep the pets confined to other rooms. By them a special toy or treat so  that they won’t feel like they’re being shut out.
  3. Declutter. Remove pet beds and toys from the rooms on the day of your event or gathering. Since pet beds hold hair this can cut back on any strays (no pun intended) that may make there way to unintended areas.
  4. Clean your area rugs and carpets. Vacuuming doesn’t always get out the dirt out and it does nothing for smells. Using a carpet cleaner is a great way to make sure your carpets are clean and smell fresh.

One of the things on our list of chores is to shampoo our carpets. We actually do this monthly since our carpets get a lot of traffic and our dogs have yet to learn how to wipe their feet off after coming into the room. I usually rent a carpet cleaner from the local Home Depot, but those days are over thanks to this amazing gift from Bissell! The gift I’m speaking of is the Bissell ProHeat 2x Revolution ($199.80) which takes the hassle out of deep cleaning.

The great thing about the BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet  is that it offers multiple cleaning modes so it’s great for those days you just want to spot clean. The lightweight design and profile make it easy for maneuvering around and under furniture so there’s no excuse for missing a spot.  It also comes with BISSELL Deep Clean + Antibacterial formula, which deep cleans and controls odor-causing bacteria in carpet*, providing peace of mind and convenience.

Bissell Proheat 2x Revolution is great for keeping your carpet clean when you have pets.

If you don’t have carpets in you home you can definitely still use the Bissell Proheat on other surfaces. I would suggest using the Express Clean Mode as it will allow for the surfaces to dry easily. This is great for us since we have mostly hardwood with area rugs spread about.

My favorite cleaning tip, is to use a slightly damp cloth to dust with. If the cloth is not damp in some way, dust will go in the air, on surfaces, the floors, and everywhere, which defeats the purpose of dusting, such a waste of time and effort. You can dust your kick-knacks, ceiling fans, blinds, this way, as well. jslbrown2009 at aol dot com
