When my husband and I first started to get a hold on our bills one of the first things that we did was take a look at our utility bills. Utilities are huge money guzzlers when it comes to the budget. We knew we really couldn’t do anything about our water consumption, but we could do something about our cable and electricity. By calling the cable company, we were able to knock our cable bill down by 50%! The next thing we focused on was the electricity. We decided we would make a conscious effort to use less energy around the house. We’d do this by turning off lights when we weren’t in a room and by dropping the thermostat to lower levels at night and when we left for work during the day. An easy way to keep up with is to use a programmable thermostat that turns helps to keep your house at the temperature you set. Another way we can save on our energy bill is by shopping different energy providers to see which one can offer us the best rate. By switching providers, we can potentially save a lot of money which we’d be able to use towards paying down a lot of our debt.
One company that we’re considering is Direct Energy. Direct Energy has great rates available to those living in the Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut, and Massachusetts areas. Since winters are pretty harsh here it’s great that there is a company like Direct Energy that can help us keep our cost down during a time when we’re using a lot of energy.
One of the worst things about heating a house during the winter is you can never predict how high your bill is going to be. I remember one winter we received an electric bill for over $300! We couldn’t believe it as there was no way we were using that much energy. The great thing about Direct Energy is that they offer a fixed-rate energy plan: your electricity rate won’t fluctuate throughout your contract term. Direct Energy is the only energy provider to be a part of Plenti. Yep, the same program you can use at Macy’s. You can earn rewards every month with Plenti! So while you’re saving money on energy you can also be saving money when shopping for those fabulous cashmere sweaters. Also, direct energy offers different savings depending on where you live! All you have to do is plug in your zip code on the landing page to learn about the offers available in your area!
Since I live in PA, I’m sharing with you the deals found in our area.
With Direct Energy you can save up to 16%* over MetEd’s electricity rate, up to 12%* over Penn Power’s electricity rate, and up to 10%* over Penelec’s electricity rate! These are some pretty great deals. Direct Energy can not only be beneficial during the winter but also during the warm summer months too when you’re running the air conditioning all the time.
So how are you cutting energy cost this year? Have you tried Direct Energy? Share your thoughts and tips with me in the comments below.
