Spring is here, even though it doesn’t feel like it outside yet. I’m super excited about my Spring Capsule Wardrobe. This whole thing is a learning experience. I’m a shopper and usually, just buy whatever I think will make me happy. With a capsule wardrobe, I’ve had to learn to be a lot more intentional on the things I purchase, not only for my Spring wardrobe but for all my capsule wardrobes as select items will be used interchangeably throughout each season. Below I’ve walked you briefly through my process on how I choose my color scheme, budget, and the items I chose to have in my capsule.
Choosing my Color Scheme
Choosing my Capsule Wardrobe color scheme for Spring was a lot harder than it was for this past winter. In winter, I went with a lot of black, soft grays and muted versions of blues and pinks that you could tell had a hint of gray in them. Spring is all about color and newness, and I wanted my wardrobe to reflect that, but without so much color. Earlier I told you that I found myself drifting towards shades of olive greens, lighter grays, and a lot of light blues, but what I’ve discovered is that I love chambray. Every time I saw something Chambray I would immediately click on the picture to get more details. Chambray is a thinner type of denim that just feels so fantastic on your skin, especially in the warmer weather. You can dress it up or keep it as casual as you want which works perfectly for my lifestyle right now. I wanted the colors I chose to reflect how I’m working towards creating my life. Simple.
Shopping
I did all my shopping online. Since I’ve been actively working on my getting my weight under control, I take my measurements every Monday. I do this because you know the scale doesn’t show the entire picture. By knowing my measurements, I was able to shop online and purchase items that fit perfectly once they arrived. Though there is that horrible jumpsuit that I purchased from Asos, however, we won’t talk about that.
One of the perks of the Capsule Wardrobe is that you can you shop at higher quality stores since your overall focus is quality, not quantity. For this capsule, I purchased items from Gap and Banana Republic. I’ve grabbed things from the Gap before, but I’ve never shopped at the Banana Republic. While I only bought one item from there, it was a major splurge for me that I had seriously had to pray about.
Several of my lighter colored jeans were carried over into the Spring Capsule, so you won’t see them in the picture below. I also have several tanks and everyday tee’s that transitioned over also.
The Budget
I did not want to to spend over $500 on my spring capsule. Since this is a brand new capsule I knew that I would be spending a bit more to create it. There was no room in my budget for me to go over this set amount so everything I purchased as planned and well thought out.
Setting a budget has helped so much with my emotional shopping. I used to get so excited about sales at my favorite stores like The Loft, but now I ignore the emails since I know that I’m shopping strategically.
Overall I spent $542.48 on the items that I purchased for my Spring Capsule Wardrobe. Yes, it is over the $550 limit that I set for myself. However, now that I’m a budget I’ve turned into a gift card hoarder. This is actually a huge step to the left for me as I’ve never been a fan of gift cards, but with these magical devices, I was able to purchase 75% of my items so I honestly don’t count that as actual money spent if it didn’t come out of my monthly budget. Of the $542.48 I only paid $117.86 out of pocket. In theory, this leaves me room to shop some more but I’m pretty happy with what I have so I don’t plan on spending anymore money until it’s time to create my summer capsule.
The End Result
My Spring Capsule Wardrobe has a little over 30 pieces when you count the jeans, tanks, and tee’s not pictured below. I’m not working towards an exact magic number as I’m still whittling down my old wardrobe pre capsule. My winter capsule completely changed my life so I have high hopes with this one. There were actually some items that I included in my winter capsule that I never even wore. Those items will be finding homes with new owners as I don’t want to keep anything I haven’t worn.

Hi Lily I do exercise but items like that aren’t included as part of your everyday wardrobe and so I leave them out of the Spring Capsuule.
