I’ve been testing out the Shea Moisture Weightless Shea Serum Foundation for a couple of weeks now. At first, I wasn’t a fan of the formula, but then I realized it was user error and not the foundation itself. You see, this is a serum foundation. I talked about serums a bit back in my Skin Care Routine post and how much I’m loving them right now.
Serums are products that are jammed packed with all types of great ingredients. When it comes to skincare serums, contain heavily concentrated amounts of antioxidants or target skincare ingredients, so I had to think of serum foundations the same way. Serum foundations contain much more pigment than your average foundation, and they have a different texture. One of the things that I immediately noticed was that this product seemed a bit runny even though I shook it up. This is where it’s serumness (it’s a word today) comes into play. You see serums don’t contain emulsifiers or other thickening agents. It’s how they’re able to deliver all the goodness deeper into the skin. Once I broke down what the product was I able to find betters way to use it.

The Shea Moisture Weightless Shea Serum Foundation contains Shea Butter and antioxidant-rich Vitamins C & E and comes in 35 shades that are seriously all inclusive. I received the shades, Golden, Honey, and Toffee, for review purposes and found that Honey fit me the best out of the three. When I first tried this foundation, I applied it like I would any other foundation, you know using a foundation brush. I discovered very quickly that that was a mistake as it appeared that I had enough foundation on my face to last me about a week. After educating myself, I tried the foundation again, this time trying a small drop on a dampened beauty blender. I love to dampen my beauty blenders with the Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix setting spray. I used one drop of the foundation for one side of my face and another drop for the other half. This was more than enough to completely cover all areas. Keep in mind this is a light to medium coverage foundation, so to cover darker areas you’re going to need to use a tad bit more.
Even though I set the foundation with a setting powder, I found that my skin appeared a tad bit shiny. The foundation held up through all my blotting once oil breakthrough hit, but overall I felt it wore fine. While the foundation wore fine I didn’t like the initial shine my face seemed to have after first application. As I already have oily skin I don’t’ want my face appearing oil prematurely. This foundation would however, work great for someone who may have dry or combination skin types. Here are swatches of the shades I received below. They may not look like they match my skin tone at all but remember these foundations are super pigmented and what I have on my arm is enough to do 2-3 faces seriously!

The Shea Moisture Weightless Shea Serum Foundation retail for $15 each, which is great as a little goes a very long way, and they can be found at Ulta, Ulta.com or SheaMoisture.com. While this Foundation didn’t make it on my must have list I was super happy to see the amazing range of shades that they had. It’s important for brands to be inclusive and it’s nice to see that Shea Moisture is not only breaking the walls when it comes to haircare but also working to break the walls when it comes to beauty as well.
