I’ve owned a DSLR camera since maybe around 2011 and I’m still learning new things about it every time I turn around. When I first got the camera I thought it would automatically make my pictures that much better. You know, because when you pay $1000+ for a camera that’s just supposed to happen right? I cringe every time I look back at my older photos. They were so small, so dark, so… unflattering. I had to learn how to shoot in Manual. It was pointless for me to be owning this expensive camera and not using the function. There was a huge learning curve at first. I had to get the hang of the lingo like aperture, F-stop, and ISO, but once I got the hang of what those things meant slowly and surely my photos got a little bit better.
I’m always looking for ways to improve my photography so I love reading blogs that give great tips and advice on how to really capture an image. One of my favorite places to get tips about photography are in food photography books! Food Photography is a whole different beast and I really appreciate how much detail the author goes into when describing how to create and capture a certain shot. It forces you to really learn and become one with your camera.
One thing that I’ve been playing with as of late is FOCUS POINTS. Focus points in a way direct the eye to the part of the image you want to feature. My camera has three focus points setting and I’ve learned just recently that I’ve been using the wrong setting. It was the main reason why my pictures weren’t coming out as crisp and sharp as I wanted when I would shoot fashion shots. After watching a few Youtube videos and reading some blogs the hubs and I decided to go out and play around with the camera. I decided to throw on this cute Michael Kors Dress that I snagged from ThredUP new with tags and pair it with my oversized denim jacket. We had a good time shooting (or at least I did) and I felt the pictures came out a lot better than some of the fashion shots in the past.
I think I bought my camera the same year as you and still can’t seem to produce quality photos. I’ve been resorting to using my IPhone instead. I’m going to check out focus point settings , YouTube and give it another try. Thank you for your suggestions.
