Personal style is so important especially if you’re a blogger or an entrepreneur. You want your brand to stand out and be immediately identifiable among everyone else’s. This is why I use consistent colors and fonts on both this Blog BeingMelody as well as Broke on Purpose.
While my blogging color scheme might be the same my personal style is not monotonous at all. I’m pretty limited with my wardrobe due to my workplace rules and regulations I try to play it up and have fun with bold pieces of jewelry and hairstyles that highlight my African American heritage. In a room where everyone is wearing a white lab coat, I stand out with my eccentric choice of earrings and hairstyles. Despite comments and stares, this is who I am. It’s what helps define me and allows me to conform without giving up a piece of myself at the same time.
I embrace the fact that Black Girls and Black Women are magic. In an institution where I am identified as a minority, it’s something that I hold on to as I try to figure out what’s next for me in my life. I look up to Lupita N’yongo and Michelle Obama who have helped to tear down walls when it comes to the societal idealism that people have about Black Women. We are strong, we are proud, and we have a right to be here. It is because of them I am able to unapologetically #bringoutthebold in my everyday life.
