I tried to get into the whole liquid lipstick trend, but I just couldn’t. While I was, and still sorta am, head over heels for all the shades that keep coming out I just could never seem to get them to work for me. I’d put them on, they’d be gorgeous for the first hour, and then as time went on my lips it would cure down to this horrible intensely dry disgusting mess. My lips would peel, the color would look splotchy, and well I’d end up wiping it off and just throwing on some clear lipgloss. When I first heard of the NARS Velvet Lip Glide I assumed they would be basically an amped up lipgloss. This is the one instance where I’m excited to be horribly wrong.
Nars describes the Velvet Lip Glides as a:
“hybrid lip color combines the fluidity and effortlessness of a gloss with the coverage and comfort of a lipstick.”
These are basically a highly pigmented cream lipstick with a gloss-like formula. They go on silky smooth and feel that way for a few hours on your lips until drying down to a smooth non-drying semi-matte finish. I tried out No. 54 which is a gorgeous vibrant red and got compliments all day. As far as staying power on a scale of 1-10 I would rate it as a five as I did have to reapply it after lunch, as well as later in the day. I was okay with this since it did not dry my lips out.
After trying these out I already know that I’m going to need want more of these in my stash. There are 13 colors in all and I have three (Area, Unspeakable, and La Main Bleu) in my cart ready to purchase as soon as I get my Sephora Friends and Family code.
