I’ve already announced to my husband that more than likely my next car purchase will be a Mazda. Even though I’m not next in line for a new car I already know that there is a high probability that it’s going to be a Mazda, that is of course unless some other vehicle pulls in and sweeps me off my feet. For now, I am head over heels in love with the 2017 Mazda 6.
I had the opportunity to drive the 2017 Mazda 6 for a little over a week and let me tell you; it’s an automatic self-esteem booster. Basically, it was made for a woman like myself. Not only does it handle like a boss and command attention, but the sleek modern look makes it a car any girl boss would want to drive. It also could very well have a lot to do with the fact that the car was my favorite shade of metallic red, or maybe even that the parchment leather seats that gave the car more of a luxury feel without breaking the bank. While I can’t narrow it down I can honestly say that while driving this vehicle I felt powerful, I felt courageous, and I felt bold. Bold enough to whip out my favorite leather jacket and boots to pair with some newer fashion pieces that I probably wouldn’t have risked before. Throughout the week I ran errands and went on a small road trip with my husband since I really wanted to put this car on the highway. My original plans to drive down to Maryland and hang out with my best friend, and go on a small food tour while seeing some sites had been canceled due to her coming down with the flu.
I love a good mid-size vehicle as my current car is midsize and I feel it suits me just fine. While I’ll tolerate a compact car, I am more open to one that is spacious enough for me to spread out in so that I won’t be bumping elbows with whoever is on the passenger side. Speaking of the armrest, inside the front armrest you’ll find all your plugs and ports for your mobile devices as well as tons of roomy storage. With my husband being over 6’1″ and an ex-football player, it’s also important that he be comfortable as well. Though the Mazda 6 doesn’t appear that spacious from the outside I was quite surprised with how roomy the interior was. I even sat in the backseat for a bit when it first arrived just to get a feel for how it from the backseat passenger perspective. I was there I discovered the backseat seat warmers in the armrest! If your passengers knew this, there would be no more fights for the front seat or calling shotgun in the cooler months. My husband loved being chauffeured around town and surprised every time he said yes when I asked if he wanted to come along. I know it was the car giving him those “yes” vibes, but hey who wouldn’t want to drive around in a car as sleek and sexy as this?

Now lets talk tech, because as we all know, that’s important, especially in newer vehicles. The 2017 Mazda 6 comes loaded with all kinds of bells and whistles. It comes with a navigation system and a rearview camera that to me is widescreen and lets you see everything behind you. There’s also a multifunction command control that makes it easy to scroll through the endless entertainment options or make a phone call with the twist of a dial, 7-inch full-color touchscreen display, HD Radio, text message auto delivery, and reply which I mean come on who doesn’t need, plus so much more. Out of everything, the things I found the most useful for me while on our road trip was the blind spot monitoring system and rear cross traffic alert system cam. I could easily tell if there were cars coming up on either side of me or behind me. I could also estimate how far a car was in front of me with just a quick glance. There were some small beeps to alert me if I was getting too close to a line or backing up too close a curb or another car (I live in the Philadelphia area where it’s nothing but tight spaces) , but unlike other cars I’ve driven, the Mazda 6 didn’t put me in sensory overload. You know, the type of overload that makes you want to scream back at the car to stop screaming at you, thus causing you to have anxiety even though it’s trying to keep you safe.
Another great feature of the Mazda 6 is the active driving display that pops up on the front driver dash. It tells you your speed, what the approaching signs are, and what the upcoming crossroad is as you’re driving. As I’m someone who’s always exploring new places that one feature would be a game changer for me. It’s also not distracting. At first, I was a bit worried that my eyes would always gravitate to the screen, but as I drove the car around more, I found myself only looking at it when I needed to. Though the weather wasn’t the best while I had the car, I took advantage of the sunroof during our road trip until it started to snow. On my next car wishlist, a sunroof is a must! Even though I really liked the look of the parchment leatherette interior, I feel it would be best for me if this car had black leather interior instead. While driving this car, I made sure not wear any dark denim as to keep from having to deal with color transfer. I also made sure to keep my hands away from my face as I didn’t want to get my makeup on anything either.
