I read a lot, a whole lot. Reading is for me is a cheap getaway. One week I can be in a faraway land working with narcissistic dragons and the next I can be in the UK helping a detective solve a murder mystery. Reading gives me a chance to escape reality. Last year I made it a point to start incorporating more self-help and business books into my reading list. I decided that for every two fiction books I would read one self-help/business book. Thank goodness for my Amazon Prime Reading subscription and Kindle Unlimited which allow me to read as much as I want from the books on the list. I also love audiobooks, they keep me sane when I’m stuck at my desk working on mundane projects at work, and with the help of Hoopla Digital, which is connected with my local library I can listen to audiobooks for free. Sorry Audible you shall never get these coins!
As much as I love Kindle and Audiobooks when it comes to some of my business/self-help books digital just wasn’t going to cut it. I like to be able to hold these types of books in my hands, highlight the gems, make notes in the margins. If I’m listening to a book on audio that has lots of quotes or topics that I want to refer back to I stop listening and order the physical book. I found my book buying habit to be a bit expensive so I created a wishlist on Amazon that my family purchased from during the Christmas Holiday. With more than enough books to get me started here’s what I’ll be reading this year.
Faith-Based Books
My personal relationship with God is something that I take very seriously. Growing up the child of a minister I know that we can’t rely on just one form of learning when it comes to learning more about Christ, how to best serve him, and how you can tap into your spiritual powers. Sitting in church on Sunday is not enough. Access to the kingdom of heaven and to your blessing can be found in the word. To learn more about the word of God and for a better understanding of faith, these are the books I plan to read through June.
Awaken – Priscilla Shirer
Discerning The Voice of God – Priscilla Shirer
The Circle Maker – Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears– Mark Batterson
Present Over Perfect -Shauna Niequist
In the Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day – Mark Batterson
I Am Number Eight – John Gray
Believe Bigger- Marshan Evans Daniels
Wait and See Finding – Wendy Pope (currently available for $1.99 on Amazon Kindle)
Girl Wash Your Face -Rachel Hollis
Business Based Books
If you’ve been following me for a while then you’ll know that I’ve been running a small business over on my other site called Broke on Purpose®. I truly believe that is my calling to take financial literacy to the people instead of waiting for people to get into situations where they need financial help. Over time I’ve learned running a small business is not for the faint of heart and I want to make sure that I am knowledgeable enough about what I’m doing so that I don’t waste time and I don’t waste money. Here is a list of books that I’ve added to my reading list along the way to help that I feel will help me become a better businesswoman.
Focus The Hidden Driver of Excellence – Daniel Coleman
You are a Bad Ass At Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth – Jen Sincero
Generational Wealth: Beginners Business and Investing Guide – LaFoy Orlando Thomas III
Tribes – Seth Godin
The One Million-Dollar One-Person Business – Elaine Pofeldt
Building A StoryBrand – Donald Miller
Emotional Intelligence 2.0 – Travis Bradberry & Jean Greaves
