My Apartment Outdoor Living Space

One of the best things about our apartment living is that I was able to create a custom outdoor living space. If you haven’t heard the news we recently sold our home and made the move to my hometown of Greenville South Carolina. While there are many things I will miss about the Greater Philadelphia area those things will never outweigh being closer to family and being able to attend my church in person instead of watching online.

I wasn’t sure how much I was going to like apartment living after being a homeowner for six years, but there is something absolutely wonderful about the minimalism of it all. This apartment has so many things that our house did not. We have an open floor plan, granite countertops, nine-foot ceilings, and walk-in closets.  Our apartment windows even face south, making the space perfect for all my plants (did you know I have an Instagram page dedicated to plants?)

One of the areas where I find myself spending a good amount of time is our outdoor living space. While we had a patio at our previous home the layout made it unsuitable for outdoor seating due to where we had to store our trashcans. Since we’re in an apartment the balcony space we have is limited, but I was committed to making it just as inviting as the rest of our home.

I’m huge on mixing prints so of course, I turned to the Target Opal House collection to help me create the ultimate outdoor living space. Mixing prints can be a bit intimidating, especially if you’re unsure if a print is going to complement or clash with your other pieces.  I started the design process with this eyecatching Opalhouse tonal outdoor rug which I decided was going to be the focal point. I replaced our neutral gray seat cushions with a pair featuring a lime green diamond print found at HomeGoods. To break up the green I added oversized pillows in an orange floral print with multicolor poms to the chairs for bank support.

I was pretty much satisfied with the design until I came across the perfect printed woven footrest to complete the outdoor space while making a quick Target run. I almost missed out on this footstool after having a bit of buyers remorse since it wasn’t what I’d initially gone to Target to pick up. To stick with my budget, I returned it and then couldn’t stop thinking about it. Luckily I was able to find it again during a time Target was having a sale on outdoor furniture and accessories making it fit perfectly into my decor spending budget.

To finish the look I placed my fiddle leaf fig in the corner (making sure it was out of the sun) and added a golden pothos and Song of India to give the outdoor space more of a Jungalow feel. The outdoor table is actually a hacked IKEA Lack table that we added gold nail heads to. It used to sit in our living room, but now that have limited space we felt it worked perfectly on the balcony. You can find the Jungalow inspired coasters at your local At Home Store
